Colin helped me declutter, purge, organize and clean the playroom yesterday. What a peach! The shelving units in the playroom were becoming over run with an excess of books, toys and random loose items. We emptied both shelving units and created piles to TRASH, DONATE and KEEP! We also relocated items that didn't belong back to their rightful home. People with children and toys understand how quickly this mess can occur.
Colin sorted all the books from hard back and paper back for me as well as pulled out all holiday books. I made a huge stack (under the table) for donation to the Opportunity House.
When I began returning items back to the book shelf I was trying to achieve some visual interest as well as keep most of the items for the kids on the lower shelves.
The top shelf contains totes for my child care kiddos and one for resource materials and books. The remainder of totes contain toys and games that are easily accessible to all the kids.
I didn't want to fill the cubbies with all the totes because it looked to bland. So, I broke them up a bit, leaving a few shelves open with some of the larger toys and children's paper back books. I placed a chair in the corner for reading which the kids like. For me and them.
I brought the other totes to this shelf adding yet more games and puzzles to this side. Children's CD's and puppets.
I added all the hard back books laying them on their side so you can see the spine and read the titles. A few decorative items and pictures frames add a layered eclectic feel. There is more visual interest and things look more organized.
Off to donate this week.
The room feels lighter and visually calming when I don't have to look at all the toys and clutter. Not to mention the kids now exactly where eveything goes and it makes clean up so easy.

Just discovered your blog and thought I'd drop by to say hi:) Isn't getting organized and de-cluttered just the best feeling ever? Even if it's just something as small as one drawer! You've inspired me to go de-clutter something:)
