Nature Crafts

Our school district is on minimum days this week for parent teacher conferences, so I took the kids and picked up my cousin Sally's daughter, Madeline (Wyatt's sister) from her child care and we went to the library for an afternoon of Nature Crafts.

Luke, Colin, Wyatt, Madeline and Ava are creating bird feeders. They each picked a pine cone and spread shortening all over getting it into all the nooks and cranny's. That was a greasy mess. I'm glad we were at the library, not a home for that one.

After they finished with the shortening they rolled and pressed bird seed onto the pine cone. I attached a long piece of yarn to the top of the bird feeder. We will take them home and hang from the trees giving our fine feathered friends a special autumn treat. They also created pine cone turkeys and or owls with feathers and googly eyes. My hands were still so greasy I didn't get pix of those. Maybe later because they really turned out cute and would make great table decorations for Thanksgiving.
The room was quit messy so we stayed and the kids and I helped Miss Nancy clean up the room. I love our library. They offer so many wonderful story times and free activities for our children and families. I worry that someday Libraries will become obsolete with the ease of getting information and doing research on the computer and books that we can down load. Making supply donations for projects or simply staying to help clean-up is a great way to say thanks.

First off.....OMG... I sure miss those babies. They are all getting so big. I am just heart sick that we can not be near each other.

Second....you are such an awesome mom. Always trying to create activities or take part in local opportunities with/for your kids. They will have the best memories.

Third....Sally Joe must absolutely love you. I am sure you don't make a big deal of it but it must mean a lot to her that you include her Madeline in your creative outings. And I am sure it means a lot to Madeline as well. Both her and Wyatt are too darn cute.

And Last....I remember making similar pinecone art projects as a kid. Always so much fun. Makes me think I should get my butt in gear and gather up the rediculous amounts of pinecones that litter our neighborhood. But then I think about all the bugs that inhabit them. Yuck! Too much work!

OK....I think that covers it. Love ya Sis'!
