Colin Changes Classes!
Colin has been in the afternoon Kindergarten for the past 6 weeks. It is not an easy schedule for him and definatley not for my child care kids. I have to serve lunch way to early give naps at an odd time and that is just for Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. On "Wacky Wednesday" our schedule is changed because of minimum days. It is confusing, frustrating and very disjointed. I have'nt liked it much. So I went to the school office to see if there might be any openings in the morning class. They took my name and called me back about 2 hours later and said yes. There was a family in the morning that wanted to switch to the afternoon. So, basically we are trading spots. I was so excited. I also think this will be a better fit for Colin. He is the youngest and smallest in his current group and has been having trouble fitting in and acting out as a result. Not his usual self. The teacher noticed the change in the last couple of weeks. Something is going on, but she wasn't quit sure. So, after a lot of long talks with Colin, there is one boy that he is having difficulty with. The morning group apparently has more children that are a younger five. It is amazing the difference a few months in age can do. Out cut off for Kindergarten is December 2nd. You have to be five on or before that date to start Kindergarten that year. Which means when school starts in August your 4 year old could start school as long as their birthday is before December 2nd. Many other states have the policy that your child needs to be five on or before the first day of school. I wish we adopted this policy. Those extra few months make a huge difference in a child's development. So that's my little soap box on that issue. So next week is Fall Vacation and then he will start his new class the following Monday. Same room, teachers he has already met. I pray this will work out and he finds where he fits in. He is so friendly and a great kid, it breaks my heart that he isn't fitting in. I'll share more as things unfold.
