ABC Rocks

On one of my favorite blogs, Family Chic I saw this great idea. With a bunch of small stones that I already had I went and bought 1" vinyl letters at Staples and adhered a letter to each stone. The ways to use these are endless. Colin and I practice his weekly spelling words with them. I say the word and he spells it out with the stones. It is a tactile way to build his spelling words and fun to. He loves it. Simply writing them out over and over gets boring after awhile. Here are few other ideas:

* Having a dinner party? Scatter them down the middle of the table and it becomes an interactive way for your guests to create phrases and leave little messages.
* Spell each party guests name and leave at their place setting.
* Spell phrases or words and hot glue to a picture frame: Love, Friends, Family...
* I scatter them on the floor and play matching games with kids.
* Turn them all over and play concentration.

*Make as a gift and wrap it up in a cute cellophane bag with natural jute twine and a card sharing it's purpose and give as a gift.

The uses are endless. It was affordable (rocks were free and letters under $4.00 at Staples) and fun. One package of letters allows you to make 4 or 5 sets.

Give it a try and tell me what you think!
