First Treatment

Well, I did it. I completed my first Avonex injection last night. The nurse came over and was a huge help. She told us what Avonex will do for me and then used an orange and a placebo injection to demonstrate and let me practice on. After that it was up to me to give myself the injection. For a few seconds I didn't know if I could do it. I looked at Max and he said " yes you can." Having him there was reassuring for me. The nurse, Nicole was really patient and said she would wait as long as needed until I was ready. It's an oil based IM injection and once it hit the muscle that stung a bit and then the injection is a little slow because the medication was thick. I didn't experience much discomfort at first. It hit me at 2:00 am this morning. Severe headache with the chills and some nauseousness. It's just now finally starting to subside. All in all, not the most pleasant thing to endure once a week, but I can handle it. Hopefully I can do it without the nurse with me next week and in time I pray the symptoms will subside as my body adjusts.

I love you too! Thanks for your the encouragment. I just close my eyes and picture my kids. I don't want to miss any part of their lives. I do this for them and hopefully grow old gracefully with my hubby.
