I wanted to share this home made play dough recipe that is perfect for this time of year. It's fun to play with and makes the house smell wonderful.
1cup Flour
1/2cup Salt
2teaspoons Cream of Tartar
2teaspoons Pumpkin Pie Spice
1/2teaspoon Cinnamon
1tablespoon Vegetable Oil
1cup Water
Food Coloring (6 drops of red and 15 drops of yellow)
*Combine the dry ingredients in a nonstick saucepan, then add oil, water and food coloring. Stir constantly over medium heat until a ball forms, about 3-4 minutes. Roll dough onto counter and let cool. Then knead for 1 minute. A little sprinkle of flour might be needed if it's still a bit sticky.
I gathered a few items from the art cabinet so the kids could enjoy sculpting and decorating there own little pumpkins. I cut up pipe cleaners into 3-4 inch pieces, brought out buttons, colored sticks and the special finishing touch died Fuscili pasta for the stem.
Hint: I put a handful of pasta in a zip lock bag added 5 drops of green food coloring and a teaspoon of Alcohol. Zip it closed and smoosh it around. Pour onto wax paper and let dry for about 5 minutes. They made the perfect little stem.
Luke demonstrated his big eyed pumpkin and
Zoe with her silly pumpkin. This was a super fun activity. The kids enjoyed taking there pumpkins apart a re-decorating over and over. It was a great rainy day, fall project.
