While Max was cozy at home watching the Niner's play a heart wrenching game, I took the kids to the Ice Skating Center for Broomball. We had so much fun! We laughed, we fell, we got wet, we got our hearts pumpin', and we fell some more. We had a ridiculously great time.
We had four teams made up of adults and kids of all ages.
We arrived dressed in lots of warm layers, helmets, tennis shoes, and pads.
The event was arranged through church and is the first event over the next three months that we will be participating in for a program through the International Olympics. We earn points from the games we participate in, also through sportsmanship and service projects in the community. My Aunt Debi rounded off our family team and then we were joined by two other families. There were about 25 adults and 25+ kids.
The kids lined up by height and then were divided up (kids 3-8 and 9+) into two groups.
Then they were given a chance to line up and practice hitting the ball with their brooms.
They really took right to it with no reservations.
Everyone wore bandannas in their team color tied to their arm. We were team red and the kids named our Team the "Red Hot Firecrackers." Each family made a team banner which was joined with the other family banners in our group and then attached to our team flag. They hang in the social hall along with a tally of team points and standings.
Each game lasted 10 minutes. The first 5 minutes was played by the adults and then at the 5 minute mark the whistle was blown and we switched places with the kids and they finished the game. We rotated through playing the other three teams.
